Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, the FUFA 3rd Vice President, has described the new FUFA Women Super League trophy as a powerful symbol of achievement and ambition for women in football, as it embarks on a national tour across Uganda.
Speaking during the launch of the tour on May 15, 2025, Nakiwala underscored the emotional and symbolic weight of the trophy, stating, “This trophy is not just a reward; it is a celebration of the spirit and brilliance of women in football. As we raise this emblem of achievement, we also raise our commitment to the growth of the women’s game in Uganda.”
The tour, themed ‘A Trophy with a Soul: Seeking Your Blessing for Uganda’s Football Daughters’, is an initiative by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) aimed at promoting women’s football, building nationwide support, and spotlighting the stories behind the sport.
Nakiwala is leading the campaign alongside FUFA Deputy Executive Secretary for Competitions, Rogers Mulindwa.
The pair will visit high-profile women in various sectors to highlight FUFA’s efforts and rally further support for women’s football development.
The tour includes participation from five active players who have previously won the league—Catherine Nakiridde, Lydia Nyandera, Aminah Nakato, Zaina Namuleme, and Krusum Namutebi—each sharing their personal experiences and advocating for the sport.
CAF-trained safety and security officer Harriet Nakimbugwe is overseeing the handling and transport of the trophy throughout the tour.
The new trophy, to be awarded to the 2024/25 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League champions, features a gold-coated figure of a woman lifting a ball—symbolizing power, ambition, and the rising talent in Ugandan women’s football.
The tour commenced with stops at MTN among other organisations and will continue across the country, aiming to inspire girls and women to participate in football and envision a future in the sport.
