The wait is almost over. The fourth round of the National Motocross Championship will rev into action at the Omito race track in Lira City West Division on Friday 16th May, marking a major sporting milestone for the Lango subregion.
The event, which runs from Friday to Sunday, May 18, is already drawing crowds as fans gather early to catch a glimpse of the country’s top riders in training.
Among the headliners are former national team captain Maxim VanPee, seasoned competitor Fortune Sentamu, and 14-year-old sensation Miguel Katende currently ranked 36th in the world.
“This event has been a dream for us, and with the support of the Uganda Motocross Federation, particularly President Jimmy Akena Obote, we’ve made it a reality,” said lead organiser Brian Owera.
He confirmed that all racing categories will be represented, including legends led by Akena himself.
With track preparations complete and riders fine-tuning their final laps, the community has come out in full force.
Locals are lining the circuit and scouting for the best viewing spots, as anticipation builds for what promises to be a thrilling weekend of high-speed action and airborne drama.
“I am ready to win, as I have always done,” said Katende, brimming with confidence as he wrapped up his final practice session at the Semka Riding Academy.
The championship is also proving to be a boost for the local economy.
“Many people are coming to watch the training, which helps local businesses thrive even before the main event,” said Susan Abeja, a resident of Lira City West Division.
The tournament will be officially flagged off on Friday morning, with riders from across Uganda competing in a showcase of skill, speed, and endurance.
