Uganda is among the five nations confirmed to take part in the inaugural CECAFA 2025 Beach Soccer Championship, set to take place from June 6 to 11 at Pirates Beach in Mombasa, Kenya.
The regional competition, which marks the start of the CECAFA football calendar, is expected to attract at least eight teams from across the region.
CECAFA Competitions Director Yusuf Mossi confirmed Uganda’s participation alongside Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, and Zanzibar, with additional confirmations anticipated in the coming days.
“We have also sent out invites to other Member Associations outside our Zone , and we expect positive responses,” Mossi stated.
He emphasized that the new beach soccer tournament is intended to strengthen the development of the sport within the region.
“The inaugural Beach Soccer Championship will lay a good foundation for more Beach Soccer competitions in the CECAFA Zone,” he added.
For Uganda, the tournament offers a fresh opportunity to compete on sand, as the country seeks to diversify its participation across various formats of the game.
In addition to the Beach Soccer Championship, CECAFA has lined up several other regional events for 2025, including the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, the Dar Port-Kagame Cup, and CAF Zonal qualifiers for the U-17 AFCON, the African Schools Football Championship, the CAF Women’s Champions League, and the CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup.
