Maroons have secured their Uganda Premier League status for the 2025/26 season, currently sitting 8th on the log with 40 points from 29 matches.
With just one fixture remaining, the Luzira-based side is mathematically safe from relegation, a feat few predicted when the season began.
The campaign started on uncertain footing, with a 1-1 draw against UPDF raising early concerns. The situation was compounded by the departure of nearly half the squad during the pre-season, casting doubts on the team’s ability to compete.
However, Maroons managed to find form over the course of the season and now sit comfortably in the top half of the table.
Club CEO Rodrick Muhumuza, speaking on The Pavilion show on NBS Sport, admitted that even within the club, confidence had waned.
“Many people underrated us, and to be honest, we had also lost hope at some point. But the team has performed beyond expectations,” Muhumuza said.
He disclosed that Maroons had initially set their sights on a top-five finish, but the rough start proved difficult to overcome. Nonetheless, he believes the team’s final standing reflects their resilience and commitment.
Looking ahead, Muhumuza expressed optimism for the 2025/26 season: “Next season, we’ll be ready to take on our opponents with more focus and ambition.”
With Vipers already crowned champions, Muhumuza also extended congratulations to the title winners, stating: “We congratulate Vipers on a successful season and for being crowned champions.”
Maroons will conclude their season with one remaining fixture, aiming to end on a positive note as preparations begin for a more competitive showing in the next campaign.
