Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai began her 2025 season with a seventh-place finish in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Doha Diamond League on Friday night.
The Paris 2024 Olympic silver medalist clocked 9:15.55 in a strong field that saw three of the top steeplechasers in the world go head-to-head.
Chemutai’s performance placed her just behind India’s Parul Chaudhary, who set a new national record with 9:13.39 to finish sixth.
This was Chemutai’s first major outing since her medal-winning run in Paris, and the time places her within range of the 2025 World Athletics Championships qualifying mark of 9:18.00, which she has already surpassed in previous races.
The race was won by Kenya’s Faith Cherotich, who posted a world-leading 9:05.08. Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi, the reigning Olympic champion, took second in 9:05.26.
Chemutai remains one of the leading contenders in the steeplechase this season, and Doha provided a solid launchpad for her 2025 campaign as she builds towards Tokyo for the World Championships later this year.
