A week after the classic men’s Rugby Premiership final, the 2025 Uganda Women’s Rugby Premiership also concluded in quintessential style.

The two title protagonists, Black Pearls and Thunderbirds, played their second round match of the season in a final-like setting at Kyadondo on Saturday evening.

Leaders Black Pearls needed just a point (losing bonus point) while their challengers Thunderbirds needed the maximum possible five (win plus bonus point).

The match, a fitting climax to the season, ended 24-10 in favour of the Thunderbirds. But at the full-time whistle, players from both teams were in animated celebration.

Thunderbirds had subjected Black Pearls to their first defeat since 2021. They ended a thirty-five-match winning streak that ran for four years.

Although Thunderbirds had won the battle, Black Pearls had won the war. Black Pearls finished the season on top of the table with fifty-five points, one ahead of Thunderbirds.

This result sealed Black Pearls’ fourth successive rugby premiership/league title. The players and management were elated as they received their trophy from the Uganda Rugby Union President and the women’s representative on the executive committee.
