Platinum Credit Heathens have officially bid farewell to head coach Mohammad Athio, who leaves the Kyadondo-based side after a highly successful nine-year spell.
Under Athio’s leadership, the club clinched five Nile Special Rugby Premiership titles, three Uganda Cups, and a sevens crown. He will be succeeded by national sevens head coach Tolbert Onyango.
The farewell was marked with a breakfast event at the club, where team management, players, partners, and executive committee members gathered to honour and celebrate his contributions.
Heathens RFC chairperson Asha Kalanzi paid tribute to Athio’s impact, saying, “We appreciate your contributions to the club. There have been ups and downs, and the success has come through the tough times. We appreciate your time and sacrifice and urge you to continue guiding the players.”
Athio’s time in charge included two unbeaten league campaigns in 2019 and 2022. In total, he oversaw 123 league victories during his tenure.
