Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) interim head coach Jackson Magera has emphasized the importance of focus and confidence ahead of the 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup final against Vipers.
Speaking after KCCA’s 1-1 draw against Kataka in the second leg of the semi-final in Mbale, which saw the Lugogo-based side advance 4-1 on aggregate, Magera acknowledged the tough task that lies ahead in the final on May 31.
“Focus will be key. We have to bring back the confidence of the players that they will win the final,” Magera said in a post-match interview.
KCCA will now face Vipers under floodlights at the newly constructed Kadiba Stadium in Mengo. The fixture presents a major opportunity for the club to cap off their season with silverware, having last lifted the Uganda Cup in 2018.
Despite comfortably progressing past Kataka over two legs, Magera was quick to turn his attention to the formidable challenge posed by Vipers, who have already secured the 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League title.
“We are playing a tough opponent who have just won the league. We have to be focussed and intentional,” he added.
The final marks a repeat of the 2018 Uganda Cup showdown, when KCCA defeated Vipers to clinch the trophy. KCCA are chasing an 11th Uganda Cup title, while Vipers are aiming for their fourth and a domestic double this season.
The highly anticipated final is set to be the first major match played at Kadiba Stadium since its completion.
