Next Gen Accountants Celebrated at MTN Uganda’s May Monthly Tee

MTN Uganda, in collaboration with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), hosted a special edition of the May MTN Monthly Tee at Entebbe Golf Club, honouring the role of accountants in Uganda’s financial ecosystem.

Dubbed the “Next Gen Accountants Edition,” the event celebrated the importance of professional compliance and financial integrity, aligning with the theme “Together, our Compliance is Unstoppable.” It brought together business leaders, financial professionals, and golfers in a unique blend of sport and professional engagement.

MTN Uganda’s Chief Financial Officer, Andrew Bugembe, and ICPAU Vice President, CPA Ronald Mutumba, were among the keynote speakers, both highlighting the indispensable link between innovation and accounting standards in a rapidly evolving digital economy.

“Accountants are the silent guardians of financial transparency and business sustainability,” said Bugembe during the 19th Hole Celebration. “This Monthly Tee is our way of recognizing their invaluable contribution. As MTN, we believe that when compliance meets innovation, we unlock real progress.”

Bugembe emphasized MTN’s continued investment in technologies such as AI and digital financial systems, noting that these advancements depend on the integrity and expertise of professional accountants.

CPA Ronald Mutumba reinforced the critical role of regulation in advancing the profession. “Accountants have a fundamental duty to serve and honor the public trust,” he said. “Membership in a national Professional Accountancy Organization is essential for compliance with laws and achieving significant career growth as we develop our country.”

Mutumba also lauded the MTN-ICPAU partnership and the incorporation of sports in professional development. “Physical well-being is vital for professional growth. Events like these foster both health and social capital among our members.”

The day featured competitive rounds of golf, culminating in the awarding of top performers across multiple categories:

  • Overall Winner: Moses Ssebugwawo (71)
  • Overall Winner Ladies: Esther Aganyira (62)
  • Guest Winner: Dennis Ankundda (65)
  • Seniors Winner 55+: Edward Kabuchu (69)
  • Ladies Winner: Peace Hellen (68 C/B)
  • Group A Winner Men: Robbins Mwehaire (68)
  • Group B Winner: Apollo Segawa (64)
  • Group C Winner: Arthur Arinaitwe (69 C/B)

The event reinforced accounting’s continued relevance as the “language of business” in an age of digital transformation. With technologies reshaping reporting and compliance, MTN and ICPAU emphasized the enduring value of ethical, professional accountants.

MTN Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting professionals and sectors critical to national development.
