Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim is baffled by the continued backing from fans and the board, despite the club’s worst top-flight season in 50 years.
Ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against Tottenham, Amorim admits he “cannot explain” the support, especially when Spurs counterpart Ange Postecoglou faces immense pressure.
Despite a winless streak of eight Premier League games, United’s thrilling run to the Europa League final has provided some relief.
Amorim believes supporters see his dedication to the club, acknowledging “a lot of issues” that make their situation difficult. Unlike Postecoglou, whose future is uncertain, Amorim’s position at United seems secure.
Amorim emphasized that winning the Europa League won’t fix the club’s deeper problems, which extend beyond the financial benefits of Champions League qualification.
However, he believes a European title could be a crucial step towards building a brighter future.
“Winning a European title can help us have that feeling that can help us build a future,” he stated.
He also highlighted United’s global brand and revenue-generating power, arguing that Champions League qualification isn’t as critical for them as it was for his previous club.
In a boost for the final, Joshua Zirkzee, Diogo Dalot, and Leny Yoro trained after injuries, with Amorim hinting at their potential involvement, albeit with limited minutes.
