The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the upcoming men’s Rugby Africa Cup is eyeing a higher rating for the tournament’s second edition to be hosted by Uganda.

This was revealed by the LOC vice-chairperson Emmanuel Fudribo on Tuesday afternoon, after a site visit at the Mandela National Stadium Namboole with members of his committee and invited service providers.

“If you look at the scoring from last year, we were scored at seventy-eight per cent in terms of organisation of the tournament from World Rugby and Rugby Africa. Our plan is to better that to ninety-five per cent,” Fudribo said to NBS Sport.

“What that means is to polish the few areas that were highlighted last year. I can promise you the game experience for you the fans and players is going to be quite different.”

When the previous edition was held in July 2024, Namboole was still undergoing construction upgrades which have since been successfully completed.

The facility, located on the Eastside of the Namboole Stadium complex, now has permanent stands for fans and a perimeter enclosure for security. Most importantly, the playing surface is in pristine condition.

The Government, through the Ministry of Education & Sport and the National Council of Sports of Uganda, committed to fund the full budget for organising the tournament.

“We are getting a lot of support from Rugby Africa, World Rugby, and the government of Uganda to ensure that happens.”

With just over seven weeks to the start of the tournament on July 8, and following conclusion of the top flight national XVs tournaments, it is now all hands on deck.
