The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled the nominees for the 2024 MTN FUFA Awards, set to honour the best performers across Uganda’s football ecosystem.
The awards ceremony, scheduled for May 30 at the Kampala Serena Hotel, will be held under the theme ‘Celebrating Football Heroes, Inspiring Future Stars’.
This year’s edition sees a strong lineup of nominees in multiple categories, including Male and Female Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and recognitions for excellence in futsal, beach soccer, and youth development.
In the men’s category, standout players such as Denis Omedi (Kitara FC), Ssekiganda Ronald and Kakande Jonah Patrick (both from SC Villa), Jude Ssemugabi (Kitara FC), and Allan Okello (Vipers SC) have been nominated for Male Player of the Year.
On the women’s side, Kampala Queens dominate the shortlist with three nominees—Daisy Nakaziro, Nalugya Shamirah, and Nandede Zainah—joining Kawempe Muslim’s Agnes Nabukenya and Lady Doves’ Kabusobozi Resty in the race for Female Player of the Year.
The coaching categories include SC Villa’s Dusan Stojanovic and Uganda U17 Head Coach Brian Ssenyondo among the Male Coach of the Year nominees, while Ayub Khalifah Kiyinji (Kawempe Muslim LFC), Issa Hassan (She Corporate), and Frank Anyau (Amus College) lead the Women’s Football Coach of the Year category.
Rising stars will also be recognised under the Upcoming Talent Award, with Okello Richard (BUL FC), Jara Brian (KCCA FC), and Bogere James (Masaka Sunshine) all earning nods.
Beach soccer and futsal excellence will be acknowledged with individual accolades, while the Fan of the Year award celebrates five dedicated supporter groups including Uncle Money and Kamodo Group.
In the international spotlight, fans will vote for their top Ugandan Foreign-Based Player, with contenders such as Bevis Mugabi (Cyprus), Elio Capradossi (Italy), and Mukwala Steven (Tanzania) among the nominees.
The Best Squad of a Particular Year will also be recognised, with the 2024 CECAFA U-17 champions, the 2021 U20 AFCON finalists, and the historic Uganda Cranes 2016 AFCON qualification team shortlisted.
Public voting opens on Saturday, May 24, with fans able to cast their votes via MTN USSD codes to be announced on the same day.
