In a bid to discover and nurture talent, Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Vice President Vincent Kisenyi has announced that efforts are underway to expand the University Football League by incorporating additional sports.
Established in 2012, the league currently features 23 universities. Plans are now in motion to include netball, rugby, and basketball as part of the competition’s growing portfolio.
Speaking during the 2024/2025 University Football League season awards held earlier this week in Lugogo, Kisenyi revealed that the introduction of new sports is part of a broader strategic plan to develop talent across various disciplines.
“We are taking on these sports with confidence, having successfully held the University Football League. It’s a strategic plan to develop talents,” Kisenyi stated.
Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi were crowned champions for a third time in the league’s history after defeating St. Lawrence University 3-0 in the final.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of individual accolades, including MVP, top scorer, most assists, best midfielder, best defender, best goalkeeper, best rookie, and the best eleven.
