Manchester United has launched a second wave of redundancies, impacting up to 200 staff at their Carrington training ground, immediately following their Europa League final defeat.
This move, spearheaded by new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, aims to reduce costs after the club’s financial struggles.
Departments like sports science, medical, and scouting are expected to be hit hardest. While the process has been ongoing, some first-team staff were only informed Friday to avoid disrupting final preparations.
This follows an initial round of 250 redundancies last year.
The loss of European football next season, a result of the final defeat, is projected to create a £100m financial deficit.
Morale at the club is reportedly low amidst these cuts and previous cost-cutting measures implemented by Ratcliffe, as the club faces significant financial losses and outstanding transfer payments.
