Simba Bag $1 Million Despite CAF Confederation Cup Defeat

Tanzania Premier League side Simba bagged a $1 million cash prize after finishing as runners-up in the 2024/2025 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

Simba’s journey in the competition ended in the final against Morocco’s RS Berkane, who secured the title and the $2 million winner’s prize with a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Despite a spirited second-leg performance at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Simba were unable to overturn their 2-0 loss from the first leg in Morocco.

This marks the second consecutive year a Tanzanian club has finished second in the competition, following Young Africans’s defeat in the 2022/2023 final.

Head coach Fadlu Davids praised his team’s campaign, saying earlier: “The final is played over two legs and we knew we had to fight. I’m proud of the effort the players put in throughout the tournament.”

Simba’s path to the final included notable victories over Al Ahli Tripoli, CS Sfaxien, and Stellenbosch FC. They reached the final after defeating the South African side 1-0 on aggregate in the semifinals.
