Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) has confirmed its national team for the upcoming ITTF Eastern Africa Regional Senior Table Tennis Championships, set to take place in Madagascar from May 28 to June 4, 2025.
The women’s team enters the competition as defending champions, having won the title during the 2024 edition held in Kampala. The men’s team, meanwhile, finished as runners-up at that event.
Representing Uganda in the women’s category will be Parvin Judith Nangonzi, Jemimah Nakawala, and Patience Anyango. On the men’s side, the team includes Samuel Ankunda, Philip Napookoli, and Sir Joseph Sebatindira. The delegation will be led by head coach Alvin Katumba.
UTTA expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver strong performances, pointing to recent achievements as evidence of their potential.
Notably, top seed Samuel Ankunda registered two victories over Africa’s top-ranked player, Essid Wassim of Tunisia, during the Africa Senior Championships in Ethiopia last October.
Sir Joseph Sebatindira, who holds the distinction of being the reigning World Number 1 in the Under-11 category and is currently Uganda’s fourth-ranked male player, also brings added promise to the squad.
Patience Anyango, Uganda’s top-ranked Under-11 female player and the current Africa Under-11 seed one, completes a youthful and competitive lineup.
“All these players come from Nakasero Club,” UTTA stated, extending gratitude to the club and its director, Mary Musoke, for their ongoing support.
Appreciation was also directed toward coaches Alvin Katumba and Tendo Mary Balyewunya for their dedication to developing the athletes.
The association further acknowledged the National Council of Sports (NCS) for its continued backing and collaborative efforts in supporting Uganda’s table tennis growth and international success.
“We wish the team a very safe journey and the very best of luck,” said UTTA President Jjagwe Robert in the official statement.
