Zinedine Zidane, the iconic former French captain, has openly declared his ambition to become the head coach of the French national team after the 2026 World Cup, calling it “a dream” and stating he “can’t wait.”
The 52-year-old, widely tipped for the role, expressed his readiness at an Adidas event, as reported by French media.
Having played over a decade for Les Bleus, including scoring in their 1998 World Cup final victory, Zidane feels uniquely qualified.
His former midfield partner and current coach, Didier Deschamps, who led France to the 2018 World Cup title, will step down after the 2026 tournament.
Zidane’s coaching credentials include three Champions League and two La Liga titles with Real Madrid, a role he hasn’t held since 2021.
