Highly regarded Ugandan volleyball coach Mugisha Benon, popularly known as Coach Mugy, has returned to Rwanda Energy Group Volleyball Club (REG VC) on a two-year contract.
Reliable sources indicate that Mugisha has already signed the agreement and is expected to travel to Rwanda this Friday to finalize remaining formalities.
His reappointment marks a significant step for REG VC, as the club looks to bounce back after a transitional period under Cameroonian tactician Ndaki Patrice Mboulet, who recently departed following the end of his tenure.
This will be Mugisha’s second stint with REG, having previously led the Rwandan side to remarkable achievements during his earlier spell.
Under his guidance, REG VC won the Rwanda National Volleyball League title, triumphed in the Rutsindura and Kayumba Memorial Tournaments, and reached the final of the prestigious Zone 5 Club Championship.
His return is widely seen as a strategic move aimed at reviving the club’s competitive edge, especially after a three-year absence.
Mugisha’s coaching credentials speak for themselves. In addition to his past success with REG, he also led Uganda’s Sport-S Volleyball Club to two National Volleyball League titles, cementing his reputation as one of the region’s top volleyball tacticians.
At REG VC, Coach Mugy will reunite with fellow Ugandan and club player Gideon Nespal Angiro.
The appointment of Mugisha has been welcomed by the REG faithful, many of whom still remember the team’s thrilling performances during his previous tenure.
