Argentine World Cup winner Ángel Di María, 37, is making an emotional return to his boyhood club, Rosario Central, a move announced Thursday, despite previous death threats that derailed a similar plan just 10 months ago.
Di María, who began his career at Rosario in 2005, accumulated 30 trophies in Europe with clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, and PSG.
His planned return last summer was halted after a chilling threat delivered to his sister’s business warned of harm to his daughter if he rejoined the club.
“Those months were horrible. We could only sit there and cry each night over not being able to carry out that dream return,” Di María had said previously.
After a second spell with Benfica, Di María will conclude his current commitments next month before finally making his courageous homecoming to Rosario Central.
