Defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz was severely tested in a four-set battle against Damir Dzumhur in the third round Friday, ultimately winning 6-1 6-3 4-6 6-4.
Alcaraz, aiming for back-to-back Roland Garros titles, admitted, “I suffered quite a lot.” He will next face 13th seed Ben Shelton.
In other men’s action, 10th seed Holger Rune also advanced in five sets, while 12th seed Tommy Paul won his second consecutive five-setter.
French 14th seed Arthur Fils withdrew due to injury. Top women’s contenders Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek also secured their spots in the fourth round.
