Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has backed manager Ruben Amorim’s direct communication style, believing it will ultimately benefit the club despite a rocky start to his tenure.
De Ligt, a £38.5 million signing, praised Amorim’s candor, which has seen him make scathing assessments of the team, including calling them “probably the worst in Manchester United history” and “chokers.”
The Dutch international, who captained Ajax, stated, “I’m from Holland so I like it… you can also be really happy that finally someone speaks out, says what he thinks and speaks the truth.”
He added that Amorim’s honesty has built personal trust.
Despite United’s worst domestic season since 1973-74, De Ligt is confident in Amorim’s long-term strategy.
He highlighted the manager’s focus on team culture and building a cohesive unit, stating, “He wants to build a team of players who are together, fighting for each other.”
