Denis Omedi has been named the 2024 Male Player of the Year. This was during a glittering FUFA awards ceremony held at the Serena Hotel on Friday night.
The former Kitara forward, now plying his trade with APR in Rwanda, walked away with the top individual honour in Ugandan football as well as a brand-new car.
Omedi’s rise to prominence has been shaped by consistency and hard work.
He made his mark during the 2022/23 FUFA Big League season as Booma FC’s top scorer, before joining Kitara under coach Brian Ssenyondo for the 2023/24 campaign.
At Kitara, he was instrumental in the club’s Uganda Cup triumph, playing a key role in their victory over NEC in the final. His performances also helped the team secure a strong finish in the Uganda Premier League.
Now shining across the border, Omedi has continued his impressive form with Rwanda’s APR, contributing to their league title success and cementing his reputation as one of East Africa’s standout forwards.
“It’s through hard work and not giving up,” Omedi said in his acceptance speech. “All that I have achieved is thanks to many people, especially Coach Brian Ssenyondo. But most importantly, it’s about believing in yourself and never giving up.”
In the women’s category, Zaina Nandede was named the 2024 Female Player of the Year. Like Omedi, she received a brand-new car after a season filled with consistent, high-level performances that earned her widespread recognition.
