Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton has slammed the FIA’s new, stricter front wing flexibility rule introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix as a “waste of money” that has “changed nothing.”
He claims teams were forced to build new wings despite minimal impact on performance, calling the move senseless.
The FIA’s rule aims to limit aerodynamic exploitation from wing movement, a change widely perceived to have been spurred by Red Bull’s pressure regarding McLaren’s car.
However, McLaren’s team principal Andrea Stella downplayed its impact, stating their simulations showed “negligible” effect.
Despite the controversy, qualifying saw Oscar Piastri take pole position for McLaren, with teammate Lando Norris second and Max Verstappen third.
Hamilton, starting fifth, is aiming for his first podium of the season in Sunday’s race, emphasizing a strong start and tire management will be key.
