Kitara striker Jude Ssemugabi says he remains focused and motivated despite missing out on the 2024 Male Player of the Year award.
Ssemugabi, who has been one of Uganda’s standout forwards in recent seasons, was among the finalists recognised at the awards gala held at Serena Hotel on Friday night.
The top honour eventually went to Dennis Omendi, but the Kitara FC striker viewed his nomination as a significant achievement.
“Today it may not be me, but I know that just being nominated is a dream come true,” Ssemugabi said following the ceremony.
The forward played an instrumental role in Kitara’s successful Uganda Cup campaign last season and finished among the club’s leading goal scorers.
Known for his calm personality off the pitch and sharp finishing in front of goal, Ssemugabi also featured for the Uganda national team during the recent AFCON qualifiers, further cementing his growing reputation.
Reflecting on the past season, Ssemugabi acknowledged the challenges he faced, particularly with injuries, but remained determined to keep progressing.
“I know a lot must be done for me to become the best, but I can confirm that I will keep pushing,” he said. “I won’t give up. I’ll stick to my plans and keep working hard.”
Now in the off-season, the striker is taking time to recover and refocus ahead of the upcoming campaign.
