The second round of the 2025 UCA National Men’s 50 Over League gets underway tomorrow, Sunday, June 1, with Matchday 9 featuring high-stakes encounters across both Division One and Division Two.
From survival battles to title-defining showdowns, the day’s fixtures promise to reshape the league standings as teams jostle for playoff places and safety from relegation.
In Division One, attention turns to Lugogo Cricket Oval where bottom-placed sides Wanderers and Avengers meet in a must-win clash. Both teams are level on three points, but Wanderers will carry momentum into the game following a 25-run win over Rounders.
Vamsi Krishna, who scored a debut half-century in that match, is expected to play a key role. Avengers, meanwhile, are looking to recover from a narrow three-wicket defeat to Ceylon Lions.
At Entebbe Cricket Oval, league leaders Ceylon Lions (9 points) face a resurgent Aboojo (6 points) in a fixture that could influence the title race. The Lions comfortably beat Aboojo in the reverse fixture, with Robinson Obuya smashing 111 runs. However, Aboojo comes into the match high on confidence after an upset victory over Kutchi Tigers and will be eager to turn the tables.
Jinja SS Cricket Oval hosts the latest chapter of the “Jinja Derby” as JACC (6 points) takes on Rounders (4 points). JACC will be aiming to bounce back from a loss to Kutchi Tigers and stay within reach of the top two, while Rounders, missing the experience of former national captain Brian Masaba, are looking to pull away from relegation danger.
Elsewhere, second-placed Kutchi Tigers (9 points) will be on a mission to regain their footing against Tornado Bee at Serenity Oval, Kamengo. Having suffered their first loss of the season to Aboojo, the Tigers are eager to return to winning ways. Tornado Bee (4 points), fresh from victory over Avengers, will be hoping to pull off another upset and avenge their earlier loss to the Tigers.
In Division Two, Group A sees Nile and Patidar renew their rivalry at Florida Oval. Nile, currently third, are coming off a dominant 205-run win over Jinja SS and will look to keep their playoff hopes alive. Patidar, fourth in the group, need a strong response following a 40-run loss to Soroti City.
At Jinja SS Oval, the hosts face Budo in a match dubbed the “Last Chance Saloon.” Jinja SS remain winless, while Budo, with just two points from three games, are also at risk of slipping out of contention if they fail to secure a result.
The day’s marquee Division Two fixture comes at GM Sugar Oval, where Group B leaders GM Sugar (3 wins) take on second-placed Mukono Warriors (5 points). Both teams are unbeaten, and the outcome could be decisive in determining playoff seeding.
GM Sugar’s confidence is high after a 170-run demolition of SKLPS, but Mukono Warriors have shown consistency with a balanced mix of young talent and seasoned performers.
