The promised land of life back in the top-tier men’s rugby premiership is well within reach for Impis Rugby Club following their comprehensive victory over Kakira Simbas.
Impis beat Kakira, 29-06 (halftime 19-06), during the second round of the Promotional Playoffs at The Graveyard, Makerere.
Travor Kabanda and Pius Mpoza scored the two tries on either side of halftime and Edgar Akimanzi flawlessly kicked nineteen points (two conversions and five penalties) for Impis.
Kakira, who barely got out of first gear in the match, managed just two Maxwell Ebonga penalties.
What was expected to be a mammoth clash between the Central and Eastern Regional Championships winners turned out to be a one-sided affair dominated by the hosts.
In the other match, Gulu City Falcons comfortably saw off KIU Crows to register their first win.
Full Round Two Results:
• Impis 29-06 Kakira Simbas
• Gulu City Falcons 33-09 KIU Crows
Gulu leapfrog Kakira into second place due to the bonus point while KIU Crows hold the wooden spoon.
Impis now remain the only unbeaten team in the playoffs from which the top two teams will gain their promotion.
Permutations to determine who the two will be only involve Impis, Gulu City Falcons and Kakira Simbas ahead of the third and final round.
Impis will travel to the City Falcons’ nest in Gulu while Kakira will visit KIU in Ishaka next Saturday.
