Kawempe Muslim Ladies Football Club have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 FUFA Women’s Cup after defeating defending champions She Corporate FC 2-1 in a quarterfinal replay held at Bugembe Stadium in Jinja on Sunday.
The victory, which came extra time, was sealed by Jovia Nakagolo’s decisive strike in the second period of added play.
The midfielder latched onto a precise cross from Claire Kebirungi, expertly controlled the ball, and rifled a powerful shot past the goalkeeper to send Kawempe into the last four.
The match was a continuation of the controversial original fixture played on May 21, which had ended 1-1 in regular time and prematurely went to penalties, where She Corporate emerged 6-5 winners.
However, FUFA later nullified the result following a successful appeal by Kawempe Muslim, citing a violation of Article 20(3) of the tournament regulations that mandates 30 minutes of extra time before any penalty shootout.
FUFA’s judicial body acknowledged the procedural error and ruled that extra time must be played.
Kawempe used their second chance to full effect, knocking out the reigning champions and reviving their campaign for a maiden title.
The five-time Women Super League champions will now face St Noa Girls; newly crowned FUFA Women Elite League winners, in a two-legged semifinal clash.
The first leg is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 at Kawempe’s home turf, with the return leg on Sunday, June 8.
In the other semifinal tie, 2023 Women’s Cup champions Uganda Martyts, will host Amus College on June 4 in their first leg, hoping to add a second Women’s Cup to their collection.
