In clinching the 2024/25 Uganda Cup at the expense of KCCA FC on Saturday at Kadiba Stadium, Vipers SC made it a domestic double for the campaign, the second in their 19-year history in the top-flight.
The Venoms were 2-0 victors over the Kasasiro Boys, thanks to strikes from colossus defender Livingstone Mulondo and versed forward Yunus Sentamu.
This added to their 2024/25 Uganda Premier League triumph, a feat they achieved after accumulating 69 points, two ahead of their nearest chasers NEC FC.
Clinching the domestic double equalled their 2022/23 success when they assumed the same under the guardianship of experienced tactician Alex Isabirye.
The Venoms now join SC Villa as the only teams to win a domestic double on two or more occasions. The latter have managed the master stroke a massive six times.
The Jogoo managed the double accomplishment in 1986, 1988, 1989, 1998, 2000 and 2002. Express FC and KCCA FC have done it once, apiece in 1995 and 2017, respectively.
Meanwhile, in emerging victorious on Saturday, Vipers sent NEC FC to the CAF Confederation Cup, after the latter finished second in the league. It’s the first time that the latter will be having a feel of continental football.
