CECAFA has confirmed that the 2025 Women’s Senior Championship will take place from June 12 to 22 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The tournament returns as part of a packed calendar of regional football competitions for the year.
According to CECAFA Competitions Director Yusuf Mossi, the decision to hold the Women’s Senior Championship before the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in July is aimed at helping regional representatives, especially hosts Tanzania, prepare adequately.
Mossi also said the event will assist other teams as they look ahead to the WAFCON 2026 qualifiers set for October.
Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and South Sudan have already confirmed participation, with more teams expected to commit in the coming days.
This edition promises to be a vital tune-up for national teams targeting continental success.
Immediately after the women’s tournament, CECAFA will stage the first-ever Beach Soccer Championship in Mombasa, Kenya, from July 7 to 12.
It will be the region’s maiden competition in this fast-growing format of the game.
Other key events on CECAFA’s 2025 calendar include the CAF Women’s Club Champions League CECAFA qualifiers (September 3–19), the Dar Port Kagame Cup (September 13–27), the AFCON U-17 CECAFA qualifiers (November 15–30), and the CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA qualifiers (December 1–5).
However, the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup and the CECAFA U-20 Women’s Championship will not be held this year.
