Borussia Dortmund are increasingly confident of signing Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham, 19, who helped his club return to the Premier League.
Dortmund’s recent qualification for the Champions League has bolstered their bid.
While no formal talks have begun, sources indicate Bellingham is keen to follow his brother Jude’s path to the German club.
Jobe, recently named Championship Young Player of the Year, could also play in the Club World Cup if a deal is completed before June 10, potentially facing his brother’s Real Madrid.
England U21 coach Lee Carsley confirmed players would be released for the tournament if needed by their clubs.
