Middlesbrough have sacked head coach Michael Carrick after two and a half years at the helm.
The decision follows a disappointing 2024-25 Championship season where the club finished 10th, missing out on the play-offs despite an initial strong start to his tenure.
Carrick, 43, took over in October 2022, guiding Boro to a play-off finish in his first season.
However, the team failed to reach the top six in the subsequent two campaigns, including 18 losses last season. His assistants, Jonathan and Graeme Carrick, have also left the club.
The decision, made after a thorough review, marks the end of a period where the club’s fortunes “went backwards” after the initial promise of his first season.
Middlesbrough now begins its search for a new manager to lead their promotion push.
