Although the Queens had already sealed the title with three games to spare, the final whistle marked a moment of celebration and reflection for the champions.

During the post-match ceremony, attended by FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, officials from Finance Trust Bank, players and team staff shared heartfelt remarks.

Shamirah Nalugya, the captain of Kampala Queens, who also scored her side’s only goal on the day via a first-half penalty, was named Most Valuable Player of the Season. She registered 8 goals and 7 assists in 21 appearances.

“I thank the fellow team players who helped me carry the team to the final game with strong leadership, including the coaches who never gave up on us. We thank God for this trophy,” said Nalugya.

Daisy Nakaziro, who won the Golden Glove after keeping 15 clean sheets in 19 games, paid tribute to the entire squad.

“I thank the team players who helped me win this prize. Without them, maybe I wouldn’t have made it. I also thank the coaching staff. I’m really feeling happy at this moment,” she said.

Sharon Kizza, the club’s assistant head coach, acknowledged the collective efforts behind Kampala Queens’ successful campaign.

“I thank the entire club leadership at large who managed to complete the season with strong bond leadership, and also my players and fans who have supported the team from the beginning. I’m really happy and I thank God for this achievement,” Kizza stated.

The Golden Boot went to Resty Kobusobozi, a striker for Lady Doves and a key member of Uganda’s Crested Cranes national team. She scored 17 goals and provided 8 assists in 22 matches.

“I thank God I managed to score 17 goals and I’m so happy because it has been a dream. I thank my teammates, the coaching staff, the fans, and FUFA for supporting women’s football,” Kobusobozi said.

Lady Doves also received the Fair Play Award for exemplary discipline throughout the season.

Kampala Queens concluded their campaign with 49 points from 22 matches, four ahead of runners-up Kawempe Muslim Ladies.

This marks their second league title, the first coming in the 2022/23 season.

As champions, Kampala Queens will now represent Uganda in the upcoming CECAFA Zone qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year.
