The 2024/25 betPawa Futsal season came to a thrilling close on Thursday, June 5, with a high-energy reward ceremony at the Old Kampala Futsal Sports Arena.
This marked the culmination of a season that not only delivered excitement on the pitch but also showcased the deepening financial commitment of betPawa to Uganda’s fast-growing futsal scene.
The sports betting powerhouse reaffirmed its support by injecting over UGX 300 million in bonuses throughout the season, fueling competition and elevating the league’s professionalism.
Locker Room Bonus Model: Changing the Game
At the heart of this financial injection was the Locker Room Bonus model, a performance-based reward system that distributed cash incentives directly to players and technical staff for each win.
A single victory fetched UGX 1,235,000, shared among 13 players and three technical staff members.
By the season’s end, UGX 232,180,000 had been disbursed in locker room bonuses alone.
“The Locker Room Bonus ensures players and staff are rewarded for excellence.”
“This isn’t just about sponsorship, it’s a catalyst for professionalism,” — Ivy Nyonyozi Igunduura, betPawa East Africa Regional Manager
Mengo FC: The Big Winners
Mengo FC emerged as the dominant force of the season, completing a historic double by winning both the betPawa Futsal Super League and the Uganda Cup.
For their efforts, they bagged UGX 4.5 million in prize money, UGX 2.5M for the league title and UGX 2M for their Uganda Cup triumph.
Super Cup Thriller: Park FC Edge Mengo FC
The season-ending Super Cup clash saw Park FC defeat double-winners Mengo City in a nail-biting 7–6 victory.
Although Mengo had secured both the league and cup titles, runners-up Park FC were granted the chance to challenge for the Super Cup and seized it.
Park FC pocketed UGX 1 million for the win, which unfolded dramatically.
They held a commanding lead for much of the game, only for Mengo City to mount a late comeback that ultimately fell just short.
Individual Awards and Growing Prospects
In addition to team accolades, five standout players were recognized in the Team of the Season, each receiving UGX 500,000 for their exceptional performances.
FAU Chairman Hamzah Jjunju praised betPawa for its transformative role in the league’s success.
“I would like to thank betPawa for elevating the game, especially through the Locker Room Bonus.”
“It has made every matchday fiercely competitive.”
He also revealed exciting plans for the future
“Next season will be even better, with the launch of the Women’s Futsal League.”
“All men’s teams are preparing to field female sides as the game grows inclusively.”
betPawa’s Wider Commitment to Ugandan Sport
Beyond futsal, betPawa continues to expand its footprint in Ugandan sports.
The brand is also the official sponsor of the National Basketball League (NBL) and the Uganda Women’s National Basketball Team (The Gazelles), further highlighting its role in sports development across multiple disciplines.
