With just hours left to the 2025 Bika Bya Baganda Football Championship final, both Ngabi Nsamba and Ndiga have boldly declared their readiness to battle for the prestigious Shield this Saturday, June 7, at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
The two traditional clans will face off in a much-anticipated final set for 3 PM, following intense semi-final victories that proved their mettle. And as the big day draws closer, confidence and determination are resonating from both camps.
Ndiga, who last won the title in 2022, are determined to add a second crown to their name.
Their team manager John Sebwato exuded belief during the preparatory meeting held on Thursday, insisting that his side is in peak condition for the final.
“We’ve prepared very well for the final and I know we have the potential to win the trophy,” said Sebwato.
“Victory comes to those who are prepared. No one reaches the finals if they’re weak, so we are equally as strong as the defending champions.”
His team, stacked with experience from former Uganda Cranes stars like Geofrey Sserunkuma, Daniel ‘Muzeeyi’ Sserunkuma, and Simon Sserunkuma, is expected to offer a serious challenge to Ngabi’s title defense.
Ngabi Nsamba, meanwhile, have made it clear that they will not be giving up the crown without a fight.
Led by Sula “Malouda” Matovu and Viane Ssekajugo, the reigning champions are chasing a sixth title, having previously won in 1951, 1987, 2007, 2013, and 2024.
Team manager Nansozi Bravinda Cissy expressed confidence in her side’s preparation and unity.
“We’re well prepared because we are the reigning champions and we know we can retain our crown,” she stated.
“Our team and management are united, and unity brings success—so we’re going to retain our trophy.”
Both teams earned their spots in the final via nerve-wracking penalty shootouts. Ndiga overcame Nsenene 4-2 after a goalless draw in normal time, while Ngabi edged Kkobe by the same scoreline, with Ssekajugo converting the winning spot kick.
Earlier on Saturday, Kkobe and Nsenene will meet in the third-place playoff, also at Wankulukuku.
Organizers expect a full house for the final, and if all goes to plan, His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, will grace the closing ceremony, adding royal prestige to the traditional football spectacle.
