Uganda Cranes striker Steven Dese Mukwala has become one of the most sought-after talents in African football, attracting significant interest from top clubs across the continent following a stellar season with Tanzanian giants Simba.

Mukwala, who made the switch from Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko last year, has been in sensational form, netting an impressive 12 league goals and providing three assists in just 1049 minutes of play.

His consistent excellence has been recognized with consecutive Player of the Month awards for April and May, highlighting his crucial role in Simba’s campaign.

The striker’s exploits have not gone unnoticed by continental heavyweights.

According to renowned African football journalist Micky Jnr, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi personally travelled to Dar es Salaam a week ago to watch Mukwala in action during Simba’s match against Singida Black Stars.

Further revelations from Micky Jnr indicate that Nabi’s assistant, Cedric Kaze, and Kaizer Chiefs’ head of scouting and recruitment, Thembela Maliwa, held a discreet meeting with Mukwala’s agent to discuss a potential move to the South African club.

This intense interest from Kaizer Chiefs comes hot on the heels of an inquiry from Moroccan giants RS Berkane.

The North African club reportedly expressed their interest in Mukwala after the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup final, which saw RS Berkane face Simba SC in Zanzibar.

Micky Jnr reports that RS Berkane is prepared to offer a transfer fee of nearly $250,000 to secure the Ugandan striker’s services for the upcoming season.

Despite the growing clamour for Mukwala’s signature, Simba President Mo Dewji has reportedly instructed the club to hold off on any transfer negotiations until the conclusion of the Tanzania Premier League season.

Simba currently has three crucial games remaining in their league campaign, and the club’s focus remains firmly on domestic success before addressing potential player movements.
