Uganda’s national women’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, cruised to a dominant seven-wicket win over Brazil in the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament at the Gahanga International Stadium in Kigali on Saturday.
Skipper Janet Mbabazi led from the front, producing a match-winning all-round performance as Uganda bowled Brazil out for 78 before chasing down the target in just 12.1 overs.
Brazil struggled from the outset against a disciplined Ugandan bowling unit.
Mbabazi struck early and often, finishing with impressive figures of 4 wickets for just 14 runs. She was well supported by Amuge Kevin, who picked up 1 for 24, while the rest of the attack kept the pressure tight throughout the 20 overs.
Uganda made quick work of the chase despite losing three wickets. Mbabazi (1) fell early, followed by Iloku Esther (1) and Rita Musamali (1), but Immaculate Nakisuuyi anchored the innings with an unbeaten 26 off 21 balls. Stephanie Nampiina also remained not out as Uganda crossed the line with 47 balls to spare.
The Victoria Pearls now turn their focus to their next fixture against Malawi on Sunday.
