Inter Milan, recent Champions League finalists, have named Cristian Chivu as their new manager.
The 44-year-old former Inter defender and youth coach has signed a contract until 2027, leaving his first senior coaching role at Parma after just 13 games.
Chivu steps in for Simone Inzaghi, who departed following Inter’s 5-0 Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain on May 31st and has since joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
A familiar face at the San Siro, Chivu played 168 times for Inter from 2007 to 2014, securing three Serie A titles.
Inter’s statement emphasized his strong connection to the club, noting his experiences have “shaped him as a man and a professional, binding him inextricably to the black and blue colours.”
Chivu’s first test will be leading Inter in the Club World Cup, where they face Mexican side Monterrey on June 17th.
