In just one season, Impis Rugby Club have won promotion back to the top tier Uganda men’s Rugby Premiership.
They beat Gulu City Falcons, 24-13, in the final round of the 2025 Promotional Playoffs to finish on top of the four-team table.
The victory stamps Impis’ authority over the second division as the only unbeaten team. The Makerere University affiliated rugby club played eight matches in the Central Regional Championship and the Promotional Playoffs and won all of them.
This means that Premiership rugby will return to The Graveyard at Makerere when the 2025-26 season kicks off.
Coming up with the thirty-six-year-old club are Kakira Rugby Club who are just two years old.
Kakira beat KIU Crows by 38-03 in their match at Ishaka to clinch the all-important second place and earn their maiden stint in the top flight.
This means that for the first time in history, there will be three Jinja-based clubs in the men’s rugby premiership. That is; losing finalists Jinja Hippos and Walukuba Barbarians who were born out of Nile Rugby Club in 2014, and Kakira who broke off from Hippos in 2023.
Impis and Kakira will replace Kampani Eagles and Elgon Wolves who were relegated at the end of the season.
