Scotland international Kieran Tierney has finalized his highly anticipated return to Celtic, signing a five-year contract after leaving Arsenal.
The 28-year-old left-back, who initially departed Celtic for Arsenal in 2019 for £25 million, expressed his ambition to help Celtic “retain our place at the top and continue to win trophies.”
Tierney, who recently earned his 50th Scotland cap, highlighted his personal growth since his first spell at Celtic, which included a loan stint at Real Sociedad.
His time at Arsenal saw him fall out of favour and struggle with injuries.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, under whom Tierney previously excelled, praised the signing, calling Tierney “a massive addition to our squad.” Rodgers’ side enjoyed a successful season, winning the Scottish Premiership and League Cup.
Tierney’s arrival bolsters the left-back position amidst questions surrounding Greg Taylor’s future at the club.
Former Celtic captain Scott Brown hailed the move as “a really good fit for the club and also a really good fit for him,” suggesting Tierney could even become Celtic captain in the future.
