Mamelodi Sundowns star Tashreeq Matthews is relishing the prospect of facing his former club, Borussia Dortmund, at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
Matthews, a key player for Sundowns since returning to South Africa 18 months ago, spent seven years in Dortmund’s junior ranks.
“It’s always exciting for me to play against a former team,” he shared as the team departed.
Sundowns are in Group F with Ulsan Hyundai, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense.
Despite a recent CAF Champions League final loss, Matthews is confident. “We still have another competition… we will try to do our best,” he stated, adding that Sundowns earned their place and shouldn’t be underestimated.
“It will be difficult for any team.”
