Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas has dismissed claims of a “gentleman’s agreement” to sell star striker Viktor Gyokeres for £59 million this summer, confirming the club has received no offers for the Swedish international.
Despite widespread reports linking Gyokeres, 27, to Manchester United and Arsenal after his prolific 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting, Varandas stated he never promised a £59m sale.
He clarified that the only agreement with Gyokeres’ agent was that Sporting would not demand his full £85m release clause, given his age.
“I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for 60 million euros plus 10 million euros because I never promised that,” Varandas asserted.
“To this day Sporting has not had an offer for Gyokeres – neither today nor last season.”
