As the 125th US Open kicks off at Oakmont Country Club, three-time champion Tiger Woods has offered his insights on conquering the demanding course, even though he won’t be playing.
Woods, who won the US Open in 2000, 2002, and 2008, knows what it takes to win. In an Instagram video, he warned, “There is no faking about Oakmont… You just have to hit the golf ball well, and it favours longer hitters.”
He stressed the importance of hitting “shorter iron” shots and “missing the ball on correct spots… because if you don’t, it’s horrible!”
Oakmont has hosted the US Open nine times, most recently in 2016.
Woods, 49, is sidelined by ongoing health battles, including a ruptured left Achilles tendon surgery in March and continued effects from a 2021 car accident.
His last official tournament was a missed cut at the 2024 Open Championship last July.
