England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, 26, today called joining Real Madrid a “dream come true” at his official unveiling, impressively addressing the audience in Spanish.
Real Madrid paid Liverpool a fee for his early release to ensure he can play in this month’s Club World Cup.
Alexander-Arnold, who wore the number 12 shirt, expressed his eagerness to “give everything for the team and for the Real Madrid fans” and “win many titles.”
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez hailed him as “one of the best defenders and full-backs in world football.”
The two-time Premier League champion revealed he’d been learning Spanish for “a few months.” He joins fellow England international Jude Bellingham and will play under new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso, whom he described as a childhood idol.
Alexander-Arnold made 354 appearances for Liverpool, winning numerous trophies including two Premier League titles and the Champions League. His new six-year deal with Real Madrid includes a staggering €1 billion buy-out clause.
