With the conclusion of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season, attention has quickly shifted to preparations for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
Previously, fans and stakeholders were left guessing about the start date of the new league season and the release of fixtures.
However, FUFA has acted swiftly this time around to provide clarity well in advance.
It’s worth noting that less than a month has passed since the UPL season wrapped up, and not even two weeks since the Uganda Cup final.
Meanwhile, the Big League is still approaching its climax, showcasing a continuous flow of competitive football.
This seamless transition is exactly what the Ugandan football calendar needs.
The UPL is tentatively scheduled to kick off on Friday, September 26, 2025, with the fixtures set to be released a full month earlier on August 26.
In addition, the dates for the season’s curtain-raiser competitions, the Super 8 and the Super Cup, have also been confirmed.
The Super 8 tournament, featuring the top eight sides from last season, Vipers, NEC, BUL, URA, KCCA, Villa, Kitara, and Maroons, will take place from September 7 to 17.
BUL are the defending champions, having edged out Vipers 6-5 on penalties following a goalless draw after extra time in last season’s thrilling final at Lugogo.
The Super Cup, which pits the winners of the UPL and Uganda Cup against each other, is scheduled for September 21, exactly one week before the league opener.
Since Vipers clinched both the league and the cup last season, league runners-up NEC will step in to face the Venoms in this prestigious fixture.
It’s worth remembering that the Super Cup was last contested in 2019, when KCCA defeated Proline 4-1 at Lugogo.
