Michal Probierz has resigned as manager of the Polish national football team, just four days after star striker Robert Lewandowski announced he would no longer play under him.
Lewandowski, Poland’s record goal-scorer, stated he felt “betrayed” and “very hurt” by Probierz’s decision to strip him of the captaincy, claiming he was informed via a brief phone call before a public announcement.
Probierz cited the “good of the national team” in his resignation statement, calling the role the “greatest honour” of his life.
His departure follows intense pressure from the public fallout with Lewandowski.
