British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the upcoming Berlin Open due to an ongoing back problem.
The 22-year-old, who is set to regain her British number one ranking, has been struggling with the injury since last month’s Strasbourg tournament.
Raducanu’s back issue became evident again during her quarter-final loss at Queen’s on Friday, where she took a medical timeout. She stated the injury is “a vulnerability of mine” and requires “proper and careful management.”
Her absence from Berlin, a WTA 500 event with a strong field, raises concerns ahead of the crucial grass-court season, including Eastbourne (June 23-28) and Wimbledon (starting June 30).
Last year, Raducanu secured a significant win at Eastbourne before reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon.
