MTN MoMo Goes All-In on Rugby Africa Cup, Says Kakonge

MTN MoMo is making a big play in the sports world, according to Dennis Kakonge.

Speaking on behalf of MTN MoMo CEO Richard Yego at the as MTN MoMo and Uganda Rugby Union renewed their partnership, Kakonge, who is the General Manager Corporate and Legal Services, emphasized the strategic value of the company’s extended partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union.

“Our continued partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union is a demonstration of our dedication to building the largest and most valuable platform in Uganda, in line with MTN’s Ambition 2025,” Kakonge said.

With ticket sales now live for the Rugby Africa Cup 2025, Kakonge stressed that MTN MoMo isn’t just a payment provider. It’s a game-changer for fans who want seamless, secure access to major events without the hustle.

“The MoMo ticketing platform simplifies access to experiences that matter. Rugby fans across the country can now conveniently purchase their Rugby Africa Cup 2025 tickets securely and affordably from wherever they are,” he said.

Kakonge highlighted how MTN MoMo is driving both convenience and affordability.

Early bird tickets start at UGX 20,000, with a special launch-day Flash Sale dropping ticket prices to just UGX 10,000 through the MoMo app or www.momoticketing.com.

With a range of pricing tiers — from Ordinary to VVIP — the platform is designed to fit all budgets.

As Uganda gears up to host the continent’s best rugby nations at the renovated Mandela National Stadium from July 8 to 19, Kakonge said the MoMo ticketing system ensures fans won’t be left behind.

Beyond just ticket sales, MTN MoMo will power a fully cashless stadium experience, with special discounts at the fan park and exclusive merchandise and giveaways to elevate the matchday atmosphere.

Kakonge underscored that this partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union isn’t just about one tournament — it’s about long-term support for the sport and its fans.

“This is about connecting Ugandans to the experiences they love,” he said. “And rugby is definitely one of them.”
