For the first time ever, Uganda’s sports world gathered under one roof for a groundbreaking event aimed at shaking up the sector and setting a bold course for the future.
NBS Sport launched the State of Ugandan Sport Symposium on Tuesday at the Next Media Park, drawing together a powerhouse mix of federation heads, athletes, coaches, investors, policymakers, and media pros.
The two-day forum is Uganda’s first high-level conversation focused solely on the state of sport—and how to unlock its full potential.
Dr. Bernard Ogwel, Secretary General of the National Council of Sports, didn’t mince words.
He underlined that sports development isn’t just about medals and matches. It’s about empowering youth and building national pride.
And with over half of Uganda’s population under 30, the message hit home. The stakes are high, and the opportunities are even higher.
Andrew Kabuura, Head of Sports at Next Media, pointed out that this kind of symposium is long overdue.
He said the goal is to close the big gaps in funding, policy, and management by bringing everyone to the same table. “This is the moment to get it right,” he added.
As Day One wrapped with energy and open debate, Day Two promises to dig deeper.
Discussions will zoom in on athlete welfare, sports investment, and how to grow talent from the grassroots.
