Allan Mugalu has put pen to paper on a fresh two-year deal with NEC, shutting down the swirling transfer gossip linking him to Uganda Premier League heavyweights KCCA and Vipers.
The 2023/24 season had just ended, and with Mugalu’s previous contract up, speculation ran wild.
KCCA and Vipers were both circling. But in a bold show of loyalty, the talented forward has chosen to stick with the Bugolobi-based outfit. It’s a massive boost for head coach Hussein Mbalangu, who’s building something special at NEC.
Mugalu joined NEC in 2023 after leaving Arua Hill and didn’t take long to settle in.
His performances quickly made him a key figure in Mbalangu’s side. And now, with the club about to make its first-ever appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup, Mugalu’s decision to stay speaks volumes about his belief in the project.
NEC, who only just got promoted to the top flight in the 2023/24 season, stunned many by finishing second in the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season with 67 points.
The team’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable, and their ambitions are only getting bigger.
The club has already made some smart moves in the transfer market, bringing in Daniel Shabena, Warren Buule, and Hudson Mbalire as they gear up for a packed 2025/26 season.
Mugalu’s renewal now gives NEC a proven match-winner up front, one who’s ready to lead the charge on the domestic and continental fronts.
