The US Open mixed doubles is set for a star-studded overhaul, with British number one Emma Raducanu and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz leading the charge.
The USTA’s bold move to hold the mixed doubles as a standalone event on August 19-20, before the main Grand Slam, has attracted an impressive list of top players, including Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Naomi Osaka.
Alcaraz confirmed he approached Raducanu for the partnership, expressing his excitement: “I’m super excited about it. I think it’s going to be great. We will try to win. But obviously it’s going to be really, really fun.”
Fellow Brit Jack Draper will team up with China’s Zheng Qinwen, also praising the new format.
Despite initial criticism from some doubles players, the USTA’s Chief Executive Lew Sherr expressed confidence, stating, “It shows that the players are behind what we are trying to do, and we know that the fans will love it.”
With a $1 million prize for the winning team, the stage is set for a thrilling new chapter in US Open history.
